Sample from the Missouri State Law Summary

Employers with six (6) or more employees who do business in the State of Missouri are subject to the Missouri Human Rights Act. 1 Missouri law prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, ancestry and age. The statute itself broadly follows federal law to prohibit the following types of employment discrimination by employers:

  • The failure or refusal to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise discriminate against any individual with respect to compensation, terms, conditions or privileges of employment.
  • To limit, segregate or classify employees or applicants for employment in any way which would deprive an individual of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect the individual's status as an employee.
  • To print or circulate any advertisement, statement or publication or to use any form of application or to make inquiry in connection with prospective employment which expresses any limitation, specification or discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ancestry, age or disability unless based upon a bona fide occupational qualification, if applicable.
